Our Shofarot
An Exotic Shofar is unlike anything else on the market. Almost every other shofar sold elsewhere is mass produced in a factory, heated and straightened to make drilling easier and finished with a thin, glossy plastic varnish. We don't do any of that here. All our shofarot are induvidually handmade, crafted with the care and attention they deserve. We never heat or straighten are shofarot and keep their appearance as natural as possible, preserving rather than grinding aware their innate beauty and imperfections. Every horn is then finished with a natural beesewax, linseed oil and vegetable oil coating, giving them a rich and vibrant appearance.
Our Ethics
Sadly, to take an animal's horns and turn them into a shofar, that animal must have died. This fact, however, doesn't mean that a shofar cannot be unethical. The vast majority shofar horns are a by-product of the meat industry and sometimes even sketchier sources with rarer horns. At Exotic Shofars, we try to source our horns as ethically as possible, mostly reusing discarded and antique taxidermy and only very occasionally using horns from the meat industry (if in doubt, feel free to contact us here about the source of a horn you may be interested in). We also have a specialty range of ethical shofarot available here that have been sourced from animals that died of natural causes and who's horns were collected with care and dignity after their deaths.
About Exotic Shofars
I (Kobi Kahn-Harris) founded Exotic Shofars in 2022 as a hobby alongside my studies at univeristy. Since then, I have grown and expanded my business, recently taking it on as a more full time venture. I am the sole creator and crafter of our shofarot and, while occasionally have some help running the other sides of the business, I mostly deal with everything else as well. I turly love making and playing shofarot and I make it my goal to provide the best product avaliable at the best price to all my customers. I know how much a shofar can mean and the true joy they bring to people.
